Category3 (cat3) cable is an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable designed to carry internet speeds of 10 Mbit/s with a bandwidth of 16Mhz. Category5 is a twisted pair (4 pairs) and most commonly used for 100 Mbit/s networks and can handle a frequency of 100Mhz. Cat5 has been superceded by Cat5e which is Cat5 but adds specs for far end crosstalk.

Basically if you’re just trying to find a network cable for your internet, then cat3-5 or 5e is what you want. Cat1 and 2 is too old to talk about. Most network cables are usually cat5 anyways if you look in stores. But a cat3 handles 10 Mbit/s and that should be able to keep up even with cable modem internet, but cat5 is the standard nowadays.

Catv means cable tv. Thats the coaxial wire that screws into the jack on the back of the TV. Coaxial cable is the correct name of that cable.
