Cable TV packages??? Why the hell can I not just choose exactly the channels that I want?

cable tv packages??? Why the hell can I not just choose exactly the channels that I want?

Like pick & mix in the sweet section?!? I don’t want to cross-subsidize the ‘God channel, Al Jazerra, shopping network(s), children(s) channels, TCM’….and all the other b0llox. Can somebody please tell me why we cannot just check the boxes for EXACTLY what channels we want to see? Direct TV? dels replies: Mate, do you understand the concept of ‘cross subsidization’? I do not want to pay for channels that I’d rather see burn to the ground. It makes my TV viewing much more expensive too. I also don’t want to ‘see’ these channels whilst I’m surfing through my package either. Need any other reasons to hate packages? Ok, Direct TV – USA ONLY….

The cable/satellite providers say that it’s because nobody would pay for some of the smaller channels, so they would cost too much. They admit that the popular channels subsidize the less popular ones. In my case, the 20 dozen sports channels keep down the cost of all the History channels. Additionally, if they charged per channel it would actually cost more money.

They also claim that their equipment would have problems keeping track of hundreds of millions of different configurations. But this is why they offer cable boxes etc that are programmable – you tell them not to display channels that don’t interest you.

Is it possible to take the Virgin Media cable tv packages without taking a phone line with them?

I want to stay with BT phone line because it simply is cheaper and I have more deals such as free evening and weekend calls for a good price.

As they’re offering free cable TV with phone they must offer it as a separate deal - Virgin Media Cable TV
