August 27th, 2009 at 1:25 pmWhile there may be electricity in a coax from CATV, it’s not enough to hurt you. It’s a very low voltage to power amplifiers along the cable. It’s probably more than 9 volts, but 9 volts isn’t a dangerous voltage, either. More than likely what you’re feeling is a static charge that’s building up in the cable as the wind blows across it.

August 27th, 2009 at 2:10 pmThere is usually about 26 volts on the cable company trunk lines to power downstream amplifiers. This is supposed to be blocked on the drops to homes. It is likely the splitter on your drop is defective, call the cable trouble line, they will want to repair it.
